The topography and spectacular views of this course make it unlike any other rewarding golfing experience and a "must-play" for every golfer. Other amenities that add to its allure are a "halfway house", driving range, and a meeting room.

Brooklake is relatively flat with tricky, carefully manicured greens. The signature par-5 18th hole is 600 yards with a creek and a sparkling pond. The 10th hole has an island green.

Fairmont is long with difficult, crown style greens that fall off on all sides. It is a relatively tight and flat course. It borders the Great Swamp, a National Refuge, so the course stays soft all year. The signature hold, the par-4 14th, is one of several great dogleg holes and has a green with a severe break.

Flanders Valley Golf Course
Flanders-Bartley Road, Flanders
(973) 584-5382

Flanders Valley, built in the 1960s, last nine in the 1980s, consists of four nines; a total of 36 holes, open to the public and run by the Morris County Park Commission. It is open seven days a week April 1 to Dec. 1. Reservations are made in advance through a computerized phone system.

The course has practice green, power carts, pull carts, golf club rental, lockers, showers, food, clubhouse.

The course has very large undulating greens, some terraced. Trees come into play as they line many fairways. One noted hole is No. 7 on the Red course; a long par 4 with a creek running across it. Flanders Valley Golf Course is worth visiting although getting a choice tee time is difficult.

The 339-acre design is one of the finest in New Jersey. It is long with many traps along the fairways protecting the difficult greens. The par-4, 439-yard 18th hole is a favorite due to its length and well-trapped green.

Madison Golf Club
Green Avenue, Madison

Accuracy is demanded of the golfer on this course and its challenge attracts a waiting list even though Madison has only nine holes.

This par-70, traditional links style course originally was called Musconetcong. There are six holes with ponds and lakes affecting play; fairways are lined with mature trees.

The par-5 No. 15 signature hole is difficult due to its length and dogleg left. The 18th, a 620-yard par 5, is one of the longest in New Jersey and is bordered by the Musconetcong River.
